Bruins Can't Hold Off Bearcats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SALEM --- The George Fox baseball split Sunday's doubleheader against the Bearcats of Willamette University. The Bruins were able to take game two, 8-3, but fell in the rubber match, 10-4.

Recap:

Game Two:

Action was picked back up Sunday after Saturday's second game was postponed due to rain. The Bruins left off the second game in the lead after scoring four runs in the top of the second inning.

The Bearcats were able to help the Bruins get on base with two fielding errors to put Seamons and Bryan Branstatter at first and second. With two outs on the board, Voelzke loaded the bases with a walk, and Jantzen Tamanaha hit a double to left field to clear the bases and put the Bruins up 3-0. A double to right center scored Voelzke and the Bruins ended the inning with a 4-0 lead.

The combination of AJ Atherton and Isaac Olson proved to be the difference maker for the Bruins, as the pair allowed just one run in seven innings.

The icing on the cake came in the ninth inning when Sam Swenson drilled a home run to left field to score two runs. Freshman Marc Audet hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Seamons and the Bruins came out on top, 8-3.

Game Three:

The rubber match was a different story for the Bruins. The Bearcats came out early scoring two runs in the first, the fourth and the fifth innings to take a 6-1 lead.

The Bruins weren't able to capitalize at the plate, as they left eight runners stranded throughout the day.

Willamette closed out the game with a run in the sixth, two runs in the seventh and a final run in the eighth.

Kyle Esquerra had the highlight of the day, hitting a home run down the leftfield line to bring home two runs.
