Bruins Shut Down Boxers Sunday

NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team earned the shutout at home against Pacific University Sunday afternoon, winning the conference game easily, 19-0.

Recap:

The Bruins struck early with a pair of goals from Jocelyn Welberg and Emma Fanger in just over a minute of play.

After putting pressure on the Boxers' defense for the following minutes, the Bruins managed to strike again with a goal by Lois Ray at the 25:48 mark.

Up 3-0 with over 20 minutes remaining in the half, George Fox began to unleash a flurry of offense against the visiting Boxers. Two more goals around the 23- and 21-minute marks pushed the lead out even further.

Madison Strickland scored a pair of goals with just over 16 minutes left in the half, pushing the lead to 7-0. Jess Hanson and Jennifer Burke scored within one minute of each other at the 12:55 and 12:14 marks, respectively.

Madison Stratton scored her first goal of the season with just over four minutes remaining, followed by a last-second goal by Grace Matteson to cap off an offensive clinic, 11-0.

The Bruins kept their foot on the gas pedal in the second half as Fanger found the back of the net twice in just over a minute in the opening sequence of play.

Burke scored a pair of goals around the 20:00 minute mark to push the lead all the way out to 16-0.

The Bruins earned a free position attempt that was scored by Hanson, good for her 13th goal of the season.

After scoring at the 8:51 mark, the Bruins found the back of the net once more with only 17 seconds left in the game. Hanson sent a pass to Peri Ralston who flipped the ball into the goal for her first of the season.

The Bruins won big, 19-0.

Top Performers:

Burke paced the team with four goals, while Fanger, Hanson and Strickland all completed the hat trick as well, each tallying three goals. Ray led the team with four assists.

What It Means:

The Bruins remain a perfect 4-0 and 2-0 in the Northwest Conference.

The Bruins host Baldwin Wallace on Thursday, March 8 at 6:00 pm.
