NEWBERG --- The George Fox baseball team was unable to claim Monday's rubber match against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, falling 8-0 in the Northwest Conference series finale.
Recap:
The Lutes turned out a big first inning, scoring six runs on four hits. The Bruins were able to get a single from Sam Swenson in the bottom of the first but were unable to capitalize.
The Bruins looked to get on the board in the third after a single by AJ Valencia but were unsuccessful.
Back to back singles by Kyler Brudwick and Jerred Seamons had the Bruins threatening in the bottom of the seventh but once again were kept at bay.
The Lutes added a run in both the eighth and ninth innings to secure the 8-0 victory and series win.
Top Performers:
The top of the lineup for the Bruins were able to produce four hits on the day. Valencia, Brudwick, Seamons and Swenson each recorded a base knock.
What It Means:
The Bruins now sit at 18-16 overall and 10-11 in the NWC.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will travel to Puget Sound on Saturday for the final series of the regular season.
