Bruins Start NWC Play Hot With Win Over Lutes

TACOMA --- The George Fox women's tennis team traveled up to Washington to open Northwest Conference play on Saturday, beating the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran, 7-2.

Recap:

The Bruins started the match strong, taking two out of three points in doubles play. Jillian Studer and Taylor Morris got the ball rolling with an 8-5 victory at the No. 1 spot. Laney Search and Sophia Lawrence teamed up at the No. 2 spot and sealed the doubles victory with an 8-1 win. The Bruins fought hard at the No. 3 spot, but were unable to complete the sweep.

With the 2-1 lead going into singles, the Bruins were in full attack mode looking to close out the match. Studer won at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-0, and Search grabbed a big win at the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-2. The Lutes mustered up one more point in singles before the Bruins ran away with the match. Lawrence won at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 7-5, while Morris won at the No. 5 spot, 6-0, 6-1.

What It Means:

The Bruins start conference play at 1-0 and move to 3-5 on the season.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins will stay in Washington one more day to play Puget Sound next on Saturday, March 10, at 11 am.
