NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's tennis team opened Northwest Conference action with a dominating 7-2 victory over visiting Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins won two of the three doubles matches before taking five of the six singles matchups.
Doubles
Taylor Morris and Jillian Studer were victorious at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-4, while Ellie Mangan and Megan Wilks won at No. 3, 8-2. Sophia Lawrence and Laney Search fell just short in a well-played game at the one slot, falling 8-6 to conclude doubles play.
Singles
Danielle Brown continued her successful campaign with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 3 to claim the first singles point for the Bruins. Sophia Lawrence fell to No. 14 Sydnie Binder at No. 1 by the same score. The Bruins went on to claim the final four matches convincingly.
Taylor Morris and Alyssa Byde allowed just two points each, with Morris snagging a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 before Byde won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. Studer was next to finish after defeating her foe 6-1, 6-3 at the two slot. Rounding out the scoring for the Bruins was Mangan at sixth singles, winning her match 6-3, 6-3.
"This match should help build confidence as we head into two tough matches tomorrow," said head coach Rick Cruz.
What It Means
Today's win marks the eighth-straight season the Bruins have opened NWC play with a victory. Fox improves to 5-2 on the season with a 1-0 start in the conference.

The women will rest up for two non-conference matches as they face the College of Idaho and Otterbein tomorrow, Mar. 1. First up is the College of Idaho at 9:00 a.m. before they face Otterbein at 3:00 p.m.
