Box Score NEWBERG --- George Fox women's lacrosse picked up its first win of the season in a 19-5 home win over Northwest Conference foe Whitman on Saturday, Mar. 7.

The Bruins struck first in the opening moments with a goal from Andrea Garcia-Milla and never looked back from there. Madison Strickland, Bailey Faust, Sydney Thatch, and Jennifer Burke helped give George Fox an 8-1 lead after seven minutes of action as the Bruins kept their foot on the gas offensively.
An unassisted goal by the Blues stopped the Bruins' run with nine minutes left in the first half, but the Bruins poured in four more goals down the stretch to take a 12-2 lead at the break.
Out of the 10-minute halftime intermission, the Blues got an unassisted goal to stop the running clock, but the Bruins answered with a score from Garcia-Milla. Kyra Barnes added a goal , Strickland scored another, and the Bruins cruised through the finish with a running clock in a 14-goal victory to open NWC play with a statement win over a Blues team picked to finish in the top three of the NWC standings in a preseason coaches' poll.
Top Performers
Strickland and Burke scored five goals each in the win, while Garcia-Milla scored three and assisted on six of the Bruins' goals. Ella Rand produced four saves and a ground ball in goal, and Faust led the team with six draw controls and four ground balls.

The Bruins improve to 1-1 overall and are 1-0 to start their NWC slate in 2020.
