NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's tennis team swept doubles en route to an 8-1 victory over Willamette at home on Sunday. The Bruins have now defeated the Bearcats twice this season after winning 7-2 to open the spring season back in February.
Doubles
The Bruins set the stage for the 7-2 victory with three wins in the doubles column. No tiebreakers were needed as Sophia Lawrence and Danielle Brown started the scoring with a commanding 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. The tandem of Alyssa Byde and Megan Wilks scored the next point with an 8-2 win at No. 3, while GFU's second duo of Laney Search and Ellie Mangan emerged victorious at 8-2.
Singles
The Bruins never looked back heading into singles, posting a dominating 6-1 record with all matches decided in straight sets.
Olivia Morris (No. 5) and Wilks (No. 6) both defeated their opponents by a final score of 6-0, 6-1, while Mangan flipped for a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles. Search posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 before Taylor Morris solidified the 8-1 triumph with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the three slot.
Jillian Studer suffered the lone 6-3, 6-4 loss at No. 1 singles to close the match.
"It was a good bounce back from a tough match yesterday," said head coach Rick Cruz. "Everyone stepped up and played well. It was a team effort all the way around."
