TACOMA, Wash. --- The George Fox women's tennis team took down Puget Sound on the road with a 7-2 final to stay unbeaten in its 2021 spring slate on Saturday, Mar. 20.
How It Happened
The Bruins opened the day with a 2-1 showing in doubles after winning the second and third flights. Ellie Mangan and Olivia Morris paired to win 8-4 at the second flight and Taylor Morris and Danielle Brown won the third flight, 8-1.
Laney Search won the first flight singles 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. Brown battled well in a 6-2, 6-3 defeat at the no. 2 singles spot.
In the third flight, T. Morris won 6-4, 6-2, and Mangan won the fourth flight 6-1, 6-0.
Alyssa Byde won a marathon fifth flight, 5-7, 6-1, 10-2, and O. Morris capped the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the sixth flight.
Their Thoughts
"This senior group has worked really hard so to see them start the season 3-0 after a rough year is really exciting," coach Rick Cruz said after the win. "Today was a good team win. We fought through some close matches early. Laney and Alyssa came back after tough first sets and won. We can't wait to get back on the court next week against Pacific (Ore.)."
What It Means
George Fox owns a 3-0 record for the first time in the class of 2021's time as Bruins, a credit to their continued development and effort under coach Cruz.
What Comes Next
The Bruins will face the Boxers twice next week in a home-and-away weekend series, starting with a Mar. 27 matchup at Pacific (Ore.).
