NEWBERG, Ore. --- The Bruins faced the Boxers of Pacific (Ore.) a second time this weekend and came away with an identical result after notching a 6-3 win at home.
How It Happened
The Bruins won two of three doubles points with an 8-6 victory by Laney Search and Alyssa Byde in the second flight, and an 8-2 third-flight win from Sophia Lawrence and Emily McDonald.
In singles, the Bruins won the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles matchups to take the match.
Byde swept 6-0, 6-0 at the third singles position for the first win, while Olivia Morris won the no. 4 singles flight 6-4, 6-0. A 6-4, 6-2 win at the fifth flight by McDonald clinched the win. Brenna VanderYacht claimed the sixth flight with a clean sweep, 6-0, 6-0, to finish the day.
Their Thoughts
"This match showed the depth of our team," coach Rick Cruz said. "We used a completely different lineup and we were still able to pull out the close matches and get the win."
What It Means
The Bruins are now 5-0 overall and 4-0 in conference to start the season while the Boxers drop to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference.
What Happens Next
George Fox will host Whitworth on Saturday, Apr. 3, for a pair of matches at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Only the first match will count towards NWC standings.
