Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. --- George Fox won its eighth game of the 2021 season on Saturday with a 21-1 victory over Puget Sound.
How It Happened
The Bruins won the opening draw of the match and it was all Bruins the rest of the way. After breaking up a clear attempt, Bailey Faust did the work herself and went straight to goal for a 1-0 lead in the third minute of action. Marena Tharpe followed exactly a minute later with what would be the game-winner, and a feed from Andrea Garcia-Milla to Kyra Barnes led to another goal with 25:33 left to play in the first half. Garcia-Milla added a goal next and the rout was on as Madison Strickland, Carleigh DeLapp, Julia Quist, Holly Esposito, and Sydney Thatch joined the scoring parade to give Fox a 15-0 lead at the half.
The Bruins opened the second half with a running clock and scored five more unanswered goals before the Loggers put one in with 11 minutes left to play. Two minutes later, Thatch answered back with an unassisted score to make it 21-1 for the final 20-goal winning margin.
Top Performers
Garcia-Milla wore three hats by the end of the day as she racked up eight assists to go with her three goals. Milla's eight single-game assists are tied for second all-time at Fox behind a nine-dime performance by Lois Ray in 2018. In goal, Ella Rand kept a clean sheet through her 30 minutes with two saves, while Barnes added five caused turnovers, five ground balls, and five draws to her two goals in the win. Thatch and Strickland each finished with hat tracks in the game, scoring three goals apiece.
What It Means
George Fox improves to 8-0 on the year and 6-0 in NWC competition, while the Loggers fall to 2-3 overall and 2-4 in the NWC season standings by virtue of a no-contest for Sunday's matchup.
