Box Score 2 NEWBERG, Ore. --- George Fox baseball split its Sunday doubleheader with an 11-8,11-inning loss in game one and a 9-7 win in game two.
How It Happened
The Bruins got a great outing to start the day from freshman Ben Wills and gave him seven runs in support through seven innings. After Wills exited and made way for the bullpen, the game fell apart for the Bruins as they surrendered nine runs in the final four frames, including extra innings into the 11th frame. Jeremy Sangalang and Shane White each hit well (3-for-5) in the game to provide run support early but the Bruins struggled late at the plate and on the mound, and a controversial call on the third baseline didn't help in an 11-8 loss.
In game two, Chase Fetzer was effective for four innings and supported himself with a double, a homer, and two RBI at the plate to build an early 5-2 lead. Fetzer would end up with a no-decision after the bullpen struggled again in the middle innings, but the Bruins' offense put up four runs in the fifth to pull back in front with a 9-7 lead that held through the last Pirate at-bat for the win.
Top Performers
Spencer Roos had a day with three runners caught stealing, four RBI, and a double. Wills struck out four in seven innings of two-run baseball, and Fetzer also struck out four while slugging well in game two with a homer and a double.
