Box Score 2 By Jacob Hayes
NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox Bruins completed the Good Friday sweep of the Puget Sound Loggers, winning by scores of 13-12 and 9-1.
How it Happened
Christopher Stone started rocky in the top of the first, giving up a three-run homer before recording an out, but the Bruin bats backed up their starter. A towering Chase Fetzer two-run shot to left in the bottom of the inning brought the score within one and Jeremy Sangalang's RBI single in the bottom half of the second tied it at 3-3. The lead traded into the fourth with Puget Sound up two, but an explosive inning in the fifth frame put the Bruins up four. Brandon King and Marc Audet both knocked in runs, loading the bases for Sangalang. His sharply hit ball to second was poorly fielded, allowing two more runs to score. Two more runs in the sixth extended the Bruin lead to 12-6, but the Loggers were not out of it yet. The top of the eighth gave Puget Sound life as the Bruins surrendered five runs to bring the score within one. The Loggers knocked in another run in the ninth and suddenly the game was going into extras. Though the tenth was quiet, the Bruins made sure to end it in the eleventh. Franklin Leonard smashed a sacrifice fly to right, deep enough to score Mason Eastman from third, walking off the game 13-12.
George Fox jumped out to an early lead in game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Smart baserunning from Leon Johnson III made sure he was in scoring position for another Audet RBI. Fetzer knocked in an RBI of his own and scored later off of a Derek Williams single. Three more runs in the second extended the Bruin lead, capped off by a Mason Arnold RBI single. With a six-run safety net, starting pitcher Sean Wiese got to work. His complete-game outing went seven full innings, allowing only one run while striking out ten. Audet's triple in the bottom of the sixth tacked on some more insurance runs as the Bruins went on to win 9-1.
Top Performers
Audet batted 6-9 on the day with a team-high five RBIs and seven runs. Sangalang finished the day 5-8 with five hits, four RBIs, and three runs.
