Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team celebrated its senior class with a 22-1 win over Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday, Apr. 25, in Newberg. The win finishes the Bruins' fifth straight undefeated slate against NWC opponents.
How It Happened
The Bruins put all three seniors - Madison Strickland, Christina Nase, and Zoë Jorgensen - into the starting lineup and the Bruins immediately kicked things off with a Strickland score in the third minute of play. Carleigh DeLapp added two after that for a 3-0 lead and the game-winner, and the Bruins cruised to a 14-0 lead at the half with goals from Bailey Faust, Olivia Geyling, Marena Tharpe, Kyra Barnes, and Andrea Garcia-Milla.
After the break, the Bruins put in two more with scores by DeLapp and Payton Bergren before the Boxers broke up the shutout bid. It was all Bruins afterward, however, as Strickland found the net three times in the second half. Sydney Thatch, Holly Esposito, and Garcia-Milla also added tallies to the board in the 21-goal victory.
Top Performers
Playing in front of the home fans for the last time, Strickland made it count with seven goals and a hat trick per half. Nase caused a turnover and collected a ground ball in her first career start, and Jorgenson caused a turnover and collected three ground balls. Faust and DeLapp each scored three or more in the win, and Ella Rand notched her 12th win of the year after making three stops.
Their Thoughts
"As the regular season comes to an end, today was a great way to finish off conference play and honor our three remarkable seniors," coach Katie Brand said afterward. "We are excited for this week and the opportunity to travel outside our conference [to play Chapman] in preparation for nationals!"
What It Means
The Bruins have now run the table in conference five times in a row and are conference champs for the fourth time in five years - no title was officially granted in 2020 due to COVID, but the Bruins were 2-0 against NWC schools before the halt.
