Bruins Cap Perfect Regular Season In Orange, Calif.

Box Score

ORANGE, Calif. --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team set a program milestone on Friday, Apr. 30, completing its first-ever undefeated regular season after notching a 14-10 win over the Chapman University Panthers.

How It Happened

Chapman scored the first goal of the game, but Sydney Thatch reclaimed the lead for the Bruins with back-to-back goals on feeds from Marena Tharpe and Carleigh DeLapp. Kyra Barnes added another on a free position opportunity and then fed Madison Strickland to make it 4-1 midway through the opening half.

Chapman pulled back within one, but a man-up score from Andrea Garcia-Milla and an unassisted goal from Bailey Faust gave the Bruins a 6-4 lead at the break.

The two teams traded scores in the second half to start it, 7-5, before Barnes put in two more to widen the lead. Tharpe and Thatch each added tallies in the second half, and DeLapp and Strickland also got involved again to push the lead to 14-8. The Panthers were able to put in two goals in the closing minutes, but their rally fell short and the Bruins' undefeated regular season was wrapped up at the horn.

Top Performers

Even while facing their stiffest test to date in the season, three Bruins notched hat tricks as Thatch, Barnes, and Strickland all scored three each. Faust won eight draw controls to keep the Bruins in front in the possession battle, and Ella Rand absolutely shattered the single-game saves record with 25 stops in her 13th win of the season.

Their Thoughts

"Each and every one of my teammates makes me proud to be a Bruin, they've supported me and made proud each game I've played - It was my time to make them proud," Rand said of her performance after the game. "Our defense made it hard for them to take good shots and I knew the game was important for us, so I was just in a zone and wanted to help us come together and play well in a tough game."

What It Means

George Fox has passed each test to date with flying colors in a 13-0 season and will find out its NCAA opponent on Monday, May 3, at 7:30 AM PT with the NCAA Selection Show.
