Bruins Eliminated From NWC Postseason

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- The George Fox baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Saturday, May 8, in Forest Grove against the Pacific (Ore.) Boxers.

How It Happened

Coach Kevin Kopple went with an opener against the Boxers in game one, using freshman lefty Andrew Sutherland for the first three innings. Sutherland was effective in three shutout frames with a walk, two hits, and a strikeout scattered through his appearance before handing the ball to Christopher Stone for the last five frames.

The Boxers broke up the pitchers' duel with a three-run homer in the fourth inning and that score held for the final, 3-0, as the Boxers held the Bruins to just five total baserunners on three hosts and two walks.

In game two the Bruins took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. The lead didn't hold, however, as the Boxers plated six unanswered runs in the sixth frame to take game two, 6-2.

Top Performers

Marc Audet hit a double in game one and Matthew Sebolsky was 2-for-4 in game two with a run scored and an RBI. Chase Fetzer was able to reach base safely all four times in game two with a 2-for-2 day at the plate and two walks.

What It Means

The Bruins are mathematically eliminated from the conference postseason with the two losses and fall below. 500 on the year at 18-19 and 13-16 in conference with two games left.

What Happens Next

George Fox will finish its 2021 campaign with a final doubleheader at Pacific on Sunday, May 9, with a 12:00 pm start.
