SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- After eight athletes took part in the Jim Klein Combined Events the days prior, the remainder of the George Fox track and field team competed on Saturday at the Westmont Classic, setting several impressive marks, with several tied and broken records.
Top Performers
Jessica Neal put herself atop the Bruin record books with her performance in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing with a time of 11:21.03. Neal, who beat out a record set by Tori Taylor in 2002, topped off a 1-2-3 finish for Fox, with
Breanna Schmitt and
Jenessa Teachout placing second and third.
Alison Young continued her march to the front of the Bruin record books, tying a program record set by George Fox Hall of Famer Heather (Austin) Hunt in 2001 with a mark of 3.77m.
In the women's 800m,
Ellie Rising took first with her time of 2:11.07, a time that put her in the #2 position in Fox history.Â
Ethan Kassebaum rounded out the program marks, tying his personal best with a mark of 24-00.25 feet. Fox swept the first four positions, with
Andrew Quach,
Cameron Seymour, and
Dieumerci Migani finished behind the senior.
In other events,
Cameron Seymour started the day with a third-place finish in the 100m with his time of 11.32, while several other athletes finished in the fourth and fifth places in both the men's and women's 200m and 400m.
Adam Petersen earned first place on the track and tenth place in the records with his time of 3:55.06 in the 1500m, while
Ayahna Bahati took first in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 15.80.
Thomas McMillan,
Joshua Williams, and
Lance Hanson finished 2-3-4 in the 400m hurdles, while
Camden VandenHoek placed third in the 100m hurdles.
The George Fox relay team of
Annalise Gonzales,
Isabelle Jones,
Ellie Rising, and
Karina Rodriguez took first in the women's 4x4, while Seymour,
Byron Morris,
Garet Wisenbaker, and
John Ojukwu won the men's 4x1.
Fox swept the podium in the men's high jump, with
James King jumping 6-06.75 feet.
Tiger Brunk and
Nicolas Hurst finished behind King, while
Marina Carroll won on the women's side, jumping 5-01.00.
For the second straight week,
Christine Strickland defeated her opponents by a wide margin in javelin — winning by 11 feet on Saturday. Strickland threw a 140-03.00 to earn the victory.
The Bruin women rounded out the day with a trio of third-place finishes — Strickland in shot put,
Victoria Azar in long jump, and
Tahnisha Manibusan in hammer throw.
On the men's side, Kassebaum and Migani went 1-2 in the triple jump, while
Ben Meade and
Nathaniel Koenig finished 2-3 in the hammer throw.
Gabe Johnson and
Elijah Potter finished the day for Fox with a 1-2 finish of their own in the men's javelin, with Johnson throwing 178-04.00.
What Comes Next
Officially halfway through their extended season, the Bruins will take a week off before competing at the Jenn Boyman Memorial Invite, hosted by Linfield. The meet, held in McMinnville, Ore., will take place on Saturday, Apr. 8.
