Bruins Fall To Pacific In NWC Midweek Action

3/8/2023 7:07:00 PM

Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- It took time for the George Fox bats to get going in their midweek game against the Pacific Boxers, and the Boxers took advantage in their 13-4 win over the Bruins.

How It Happened
The Boxers jumped on the scoreboard quickly as they scored four runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run. Fox couldn't respond and by the top half of the sixth inning, it was 6-0 in favor of the Boxers.

In the sixth, Jared Miller started things off with a walk, and Jeremy Sangalang got on board with a single. Jonathan Stone came up and drove in Miller with a single, and Tyler Durant got another runcin with an RBI double. A fielder's choice scored Stone and Bleu Ellis got the final RBI of the inning with a two-out single. At the end of the inning, the Bruins found themselves down only two runs, 4-6.

The Boxers responded right away in the bottom half of the same inning, scoring two runs – one on a passed ball, the third run scored on a passed ball in the game. The Boxers scored again in the seventh (a three-run RBI double), and once more in the eighth (two RBI base hits), pushing the lead to 13-4 going into the top half of the ninth.

The Bruins went down one-two-three in their last at-bats, ending the game and giving the Bruins their fifth straight NWC loss. Fox had less than ten hits in the game, compared to Pacific's 15 hits and 10 RBIs. That stat, combined with a few untimely Bruins' errors, made it very difficult to keep Pacific off the scoreboard.

Top Performances
Bleu Ellis went 2-4 with an RBI on the day, while first baseman Jonathan Stone, designated hitter Tyler Durant, and catcher Spencer Roos also recorded an RBI.

What It Means
Fox is now five games below .500, sitting at 5-10 (1-5 NWC). Pacific improves to 8-5 (5-2 NWC).
