NEWBERG, Ore. -- After a long year of competition, the George Fox track and field program held their final meet of the season, the GFU Final Qualifier. The meet served as a final push to make the championship field for the 2023 NCAA National Meet in Rochester, N.Y.
Top Performances
While several other athletes prepared for nationals or completed their season, Ellena Corwin was one Bruin who stood out — besting her previous mark in the women's javelin with a throw 42.66m, cementing her spot in the NCAAs. Teammate Chrissy Strickland, who currently sits at No. 3 in the nation, threw a 44.67m in the competition.
Byron Morris,
Elizabeth Warren,
Marina Carroll and
Kyle Goecks finished their season with runner-up finishes in their respective events, beating out competitors in the men's 100m, women's 200m, women's high jump and men's 200m. In a similar vein,
Brenna Sclair,
Connor Hatch,
Austin Gappa, and
Emily Crawford finished their seasons with wins in the women's 1500m, men's 400m hurdles, men's 3000m steeplechase, and women's triple jump.
While not breaking any of their personal marks in their victories on Thursday,
James King,
Alison Young, and
Andrew Quach all remain hopeful for a nationals appearance — as it stands, King is the second highest jumper in Division III, with Quach in seventh and Young 12th.
Ben Meade sits just outside the top 20 in hammer throw, sitting in 34th place; Meade threw a 53.76m mark on Thursday.
