Four Bruins Compete at Day Two of Nationals

5/26/2023 4:15:00 PM

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- After a successful day one that saw two athletes for the George Fox track and field team win national championships, four Bruins took to the track for day two of the NCAA National Championships.

How It Happened
Brecken VandenHoek returned for day two of multis competition, competing in the final three women's heptathlon events. The senior placed 18th in the long jump and 20th in the 800m, but won the javelin throw with an impressive mark of 133-04 — a throw that would have placed her 10th in the nation for Thursday's javelin. VandenHoek finished the day with 4,792 points, good for ninth place overall.

Three consecutive faults on the decathlon discus set Tayler Phillips back, but a strong showing in the javelin moved the senior up in the rankings. Phillips finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 175'-02"; coupled with a 14th in the 1500m, the senior placed 17th in the decathlon with a total of 6,179.

Alison Young and Ellie Rising rounded out the day for the Bruins, with Young placing 22nd in the pole vault and Rising placing 12th in the 800m prelims with a time of 12:11.73.
