Season Comes to a Close With Third Day Pair of Performances

5/27/2023 2:27:00 PM

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- With most of their athletes competing on the first and second days, the George Fox track and field team wrapped up their season with two more athletes competing.

How It Happened
11 of the 13 Bruins had already competed in their events after day two, leaving just James King and Dieumerci Migani as the lone Fox athletes remaining. King would compete in the first event of the day, the high jump, with Migani taking on the triple jump.

For the high jump, King cleared his first two marks before failing a third, finishing in 16th place with a jump of 6'-05.50". King was the second-highest finishing freshman behind MIT's Jackson Bliey, who placed fourth with a 6'-07.50".

Next up was Migani, who faced winds throughout the day. The freshman's third jump went 44'-10.25" to place him 20th in the nation. Once again though, the Bruins' young talent impressed — Migani was one of only two freshmen to compete in the event.

What It Means
Fox wraps up their season with two individual champions — Chrissy Strickland for javelin and Ethan Kassebaum for long jump. The Bruins were one of ten teams in Division III to have multiple national champions in 2023.

As a team, Fox finished 25th for the men and 21st for the women; 78 teams scored for the men while 73 scored for the women, with athletes for hundreds of schools competing over the weekend.

Up Next
Saturday's events saw not just the track and field program's season come to a close, but the entire 2022-23 George Fox athletic season as well. 21 of the Bruins' teams played in NCAA competition, with the Bruins capturing their second consecutive McIlroy-Lewis All-Sports Trophy and winning one team and two individual championships.
