NWC Scholar-Athletes must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better and be a member of the team during their traditional season to be considered for academic honors from the conference. First Team scholars are submitted to the conference by each institution based on their work in the classroom, on the field, and as representatives of overall excellence.
The Bruins' finished with a GPA of 3.34 while winning an NWC-high seven conference championships — taking the titles in men's and women's cross country, men's and women's track and field, men's tennis, women's golf, and women's lacrosse.Â
Thanks to their work both on the field and in the classroom, Takamiya and Weiss were named NWC First Team All-Scholar Athletes. Both athletes posted a GPA of 3.90 or better in their years at Fox and both earned NWC Scholar-Athlete honors in all four of their years at Fox.Â
Peter Weiss, a standout member of the George Fox University cross country team, has concluded his collegiate career with remarkable accolades. A three-time All-NWC First Team selection, three-time USTFCCCA All-West Region honoree, and two-time NCAA Division III Championship qualifier, Weiss was named the NWC Men's Cross Country Champion and Runner of the Year in 2023.Â
Additionally, Weiss is a distinguished USTFCCCA All-American, completing his time at Fox with a 3.92 GPA and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. He has been recognized as a NWCÂ Scholar-Athlete on six occasions and received the USTFCCCA All-Academic award from 2021 to 2023. Beyond his academic and athletic achievements, Weiss participated in the GFU DPT Uganda Service Trip, providing free physical therapy services in Uganda for two weeks.Â
Takamiya completed her senior golf season 2024 NCAA Division III Individual Champion. Takamiya's impressive career includes three-time recognition as Northwest Conference (NWC) Player of the Year, four time All-NWC First Team honors, and being named a WGCA All-American on four occasions. Her standout performance also earned her the title of WGCA PING Player of the Year for 2024, as well as both the D-III Inskter Award, D-III Honda Athlete of the Year finalist, and 2024 NWC Woman of the year.Â
In addition to her athletic prowess, Takamiya excelled academically. The senior pursued a major in business administration with a minor in graphic design, finishing with a 3.90 GPA. Her academic achievements are further highlighted by her four-time selection as a Northwest Conference Scholar-Athlete and as a WGCA Academic All-American Scholar.
