9/29/2024 4:44:00 PM

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- The Bruins finished up at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Sunday, capping off a successful start to the fall season.

How it Happened
After several close matches on Saturday, three Bruins remained at the start of Sunday matches.

Shanah Denham kicked things off for George Fox, winning her singles match 6-4, 6-1 over Whitworth's Paige Oliver to advance to the A Draw second-round consolation finals. She finished the day as the runner-up, dropping her match to Pacific's Chloe Takahashi 6-3, 6-1.

Cassey Hitch continued her dominant run in the B Main Draw bracket, taking down Whitman's number-one-seeded Jules Thompson in the semifinals 6-4, 6-2. In the finals, Hitch faced Pacific's Valentina Casab-Klescova, but finished just short of a title. Casab-Klescova took the match 6-4, 6-4, as Hitch comes home as the runner up.

Juhree Kizziar won her first match of the day against Lewis and Clark's Madison Vianzon 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the B Draw third-round consolation finals. In dramatic fashion, Kizziar was declared the champion with a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-8 victory over Lewis and Clark's Hayley Kreps.

Top Performances
The Bruins showed success in both singles and double action on the weekend. The weekend was highlighted by Kalli Wiker and Riley Bobkiewicz reaching the doubles main semi-finals, picking off right where they left off from the Pacific 5 Way Tournament last weekend.

Sophie Denham joined her sister Shannah on their way to a doubles quarter-final appearance as well, winning their first two matches 8-4, and 8-3.

In the A Main Draw, Wiker showed her dominance with a singles quarter-final appearance, losing only to Whitman's three-seeded Jin Yu.

Arianna Rader and Abigail Bond both saw wins on the weekend as well, with Rader picking up a singles win on Saturday in the A Draw first-round consolation, and Bond picking up a doubles win alongside Kizziar in the doubles consolation bracket.

Coach's Thoughts
"Overall it was a good weekend for the team," said Head Coach Rick Cruz. "Cassey played great getting to the finals of the B draw, and Juhree did great in winning her back draw. We showed as a team that we can compete with the best in the conference. I'm excited for the spring season!"
What it Means
Every single Bruin won at least once during the weekend, giving the team some momentum heading into the Spring season.

What Happens Next
The Bruins are done for the fall season, but will pick up action again on January 30th with a dual match at home against the College of Idaho.
