Bruins Celebrate Seniors In Final Dual-Meet of 2025

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox Bruins' swim team hosted the Whitman Blues for their last meet of the regular season, and took time to honor seniors Abbey Nardella – a record holding Paralympian – Mia Smith, Mason Luna, Austin Rohrbach, and All-NWC Second Teamer Aries Valenzuela. The Blues won the meet on the men's side with a score of 148-101, and also defeated Fox on the women's side, 157-88.

Top Performances
The men's 200 yard medley relay started the day strong for the Bruins, as Valenzuela, Strom Nordberg, Alexander Cameron, and August Maberry won the race by a hundredth of a second – 1:41.31 to 1:41.32 – after a heroic finish. 

Laurel Knox dominated the women's 1650 yard freestyle, taking the distance race with a time of 18:58. Wyatt Green won the same race on the men's side, surging on the final three laps to win the race by just one second with a time of 18:05.

In the women's 50 yard freestyle, senior Mia Smith went out on a high note, taking first place with a time of 25.88. Aries Valenzuela also raced well on the men's side with a time of 22.72 while finishing in second. 

Freshman Aidan Buchanan won the men's 400 yard IM comfortably with a time of 4:35.51. 

Ellie Hoover edged out the competition in the women's 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.74.

In his final individual race of the regular season, Valenzuela added one more individual win to his name, this time winning the men' 100 backstroke with a time of 55.12. 

What Comes Next
The Bruins are now off to the conference championship meet at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington. The first day of competition is February 13th, and the meet runs through February 16th.
