LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- The George Fox men's golf team finished in seventh place on a rainy first day of the highly-competive NWC Classic with a total score of 297 (+13).
Top Performances
Leading the Bruins was
Truman Fletcher who finished overall in 13th place, 72 (+1); throughout the day, he ended with two birdies — one on each nine — and concluded the back nine even (E). Right behind Fletcher was
Eli Harrell with a score of 74 (+3). Harrell did well on the back nine with a birdie and ended the day in a tie for 13th. With him in the tie for 13th was Joel Martinez, 74 (+3). While Martinez ended the front nine with a score of 38 (+2), he improved greatly into the back nine with three birdies and a total of 36 (+1).
Ian Powers was next for the Bruins and added two birdies to his record. With a cumulative score of 77 (+6), Powers completed the first day in a tie for 31st. Rounding out the score for George Fox was
Luke Powell who also tied for 31st, 77 (+6). Powell had one birdie on hole seven, but excelled in the back nine with two more birdies.
At the end of the first day, Willamette University was the first place finisher on the green with a total score of 285 (+1). On the individual side of the competition, Willamette's Brock Olson earned first place having earned a score of 68 (-3).
What Happens Next
George Fox will stay in Lake Oswego, Ore. for the second day of the NWC Classic. They will be competing on Monday, October 13 as they look ahead to keep improving on the green.
