WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The George Fox men's golf team achieved a stately third place at Veterans Golf Course for day one of the Confluence Classic, finishing with a score of 297 (+9).
Top Performances
Tying for the top spot of the George Fox team was
Ian Powers and
Truman Fletcher; the two each tied for ninth with an even score of 72 (E). Powers started off the classic with a birdie in the front nine and continued to do well into the back nine where he scored two more birdies. On the other side of things, Fletcher had a strong performance in the front nine in which he had three birdies and finished with a 33 (-3). In the back nine, Fletcher added another birdie to his record on hole 11.
In 17th place overall and third for the Bruins was
Eli Harrell who shot a 76 (+4). Harrell had three birdies throughout the first day: two on the front nine and one on the back nine. Next up for George Fox was
Luke Powell; on the green, he achieved two birdies on each nine resulting in four birdies overall. Powell ended the day in 22nd place with a score of 77 (+5). Rounding out the Bruin's score was
Joel Martinez Jr. with a 37th place day-one finish. Martinez Jr. a birdie on hole one, he had an overall score of 80 (+8) throughout the day.
The George Fox B team also competed in the contest and placed in 10th.
Christian Chacon is slotted 12th place with a score of 73 (+1) as well as gaining two birdies.
Ian MacArthur and Otto also recorded two birdies each; MacArthur placed in 31st — 79(+7) — and Klein shot a 86 (+14) for a 46th place finish after day one.
Blake Johnston finished the day off in 49th place, 91 (+19).
The leaders for team play on the first day was Puget Sound University who scored a 280 (-8). Individually, Whitman University's Grady Brown is in first place with a 67 (-5).
What Happens Next
George Fox will stay in Walla Walla, Wash. on Monday, October 20 to continue competing in the Confluence Classic. The second day of the classic will be held at Wine Valley Golf Course.
