Fox Boasts Second-Best Single Round in Program History in First Round of Pacific Invite

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. -- The George Fox men's golf team had a phenomenal first day at the Pacific Invitational, ending in second place after the second-best day in program history; the Bruins finished with a score of 281 (-3). 

Top Performances
Eli Harrell had a first round to remember on the green as he led the Bruins, ending the first day with a total of 67 (-4) as well as tying for first place. Harrell began the day well with two birdies on the front nine, but he really shone on the back nine where he earned four birdies. In both the front and back nine he ended under par en route to the 11th-best single round in program history.. 

Truman Fletcher was right behind Harrell, as he finished second for the Bruins and tied for fourth overall, 68 (-3). The senior had six birdies overall: three on the front nine and three on the back. Along with Harrell, Fletcher was also under par on each nine. 

Next for the Bruins was Luke Powell; he had one birdie on the front nine, but he found his rhythm on the back nine with four. Powell finished the first day 71 (E) and tied for 15th. Ian Powers thrived on the front nine where he had two birdies as well as finishing 37 (E). Powers overall total was 75 (+4) and concluded in a tie for 44th. Rounding out the score for George Fox was Joel Martinez, who had a total of four birdies throughout the day. Martinez finished tying for 53rd with a total of 77 (+6). 

In addition to the main GFU, the Bruins also fielded a "B" team: Blake Johnston (53rd with a 77), Christian Chacon (61st with a 78), Ian MacArthur (68th with an 81), and Otto Klein (21st with an 84).

At the end of the first day, Willamette University took first place for team play, ending with a (-7). Individually, Willamette's AJ Papajohn tied with Harrell for first place with an overall score of 67 (-4). 

What Happens Next
The Bruins will continue to play in North Plains, Ore. for the second day of the Pacific Invitational on Sunday, October 4. Tee time is scheduled to start at 9 a.m at Pumpkin Ridge.
