2/16/2025 10:07:00 PM

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- The men's and women's swimming teams finished up the Northwest Conference championships Sunday afternoon with both coming in seventh place overall.

Top Performers
Jesse Urback kicked things off for the Bruins in the 1650 freestyle, placing third in the women's 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:05.74. This third-place finish was one of the best of the weekend for the team, capping off a solid weekend for Urback. Micah Hugo also swam well in the mile, taking ninth place in the men's 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:10.13.

Ellie Hoover and Cameron Alexander had solid races in the finals in the 200 butterfly, with Hoover placing ninth with a time of 2:22.20, and Alexander posting a 1:56.69 - good enough for seventh.

Three other Bruins made the finals on the last day of the conference meet, with Zoey Stapleman placing 16th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:19.54, Riley Parker placing 16th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:39.19, and Strom Nording finishing it off for the men's team with a 2:16.78 in the 200 breaststroke.

The team finishes their seventh season as a program with the conclusion of this meet. Both men's and women's swim teams finish the season in seventh place, with the men's team improving from their eighth-place finish last year.

Coach's Thoughts
"As we close this season, I couldn't be prouder of the work this team has put in, both in and out of the water," said Bruins head coach Natalie Turner. "They have pushed themselves to be better – physically, mentally, and spiritually. Our success in the pool this weekend was a cumulation of a year growing in faith, character, and perseverance. Beyond the records and victories, this season has been a testament to perseverance and dedication, with each swimmer pushing themselves to new goals. Our team just finished it's seventh year, and we have a lot of growing yet to do, but I am confident in the culture we have and how we can become a better team because of it."
