Bruins Dominate Icebreaker to Kick Off Outdoor Season

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The George Fox University men's and women's track and field teams both left the Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker invitational with team wins, as the men's team won with 108 total points and the women's team with 152.

Top Performances
The Bruins grabbed their first podium of the day in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, as Maximus Chalpoutis took first with a time of 10:08.56, 30 secs ahead of the rest of the pack. 

GFU had three runners finish in the top five of the men's 1500 meter run, led by Aidan Arther (3:58.80) and Caleb Doddington (4:00.56), who came in first and second respectively, while Ryan Scholtes grabbed fifth with a 4:03.18. Hope Bridge and Marcella Leita came in sixth and seventh for the women's side, with times of 5:02.56 and 5:04.98. 

Karys Gates finished fourth in the women's 400 meter sprint with a time of 1:01.38. 

In the women's 100 meter dash, senior Ayahna Bahati finished on the podium with a personal best time of 12.77 finishing in third, and Jenna Huntsman finished in fourth with a time of 12.87. Bahati set a second personal best in the women's 200 meter with a 26.96, good enough for second overall. On the men's side, Blake Smith finished at the top of the men's field with a time of 11.22 to give Fox the ten points for a first place finish.

Ellie Rising finished over 10 seconds in front of the rest of the women's 800 meter field, winning her race with a time of 2:12.52. On the men's side, Arthur finished fifth with a time of 1:58.13, and Josiah Sohus in sixth with a 1:59.08.

Kynan Anderson and Connor Hatch took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men's 400 meter hurdles, Anderson with a 59.86 and Hatch with a 1:00.08. On the women's side, Daisy Hernandez came in fourth with a 1:13.23, Madison Fuller in fifth with a 1:15.45 and Savannah Johnstone in sixth with a 1:16.11.

In the Women's 5k, Hannah Tranby grabbed second place for the Bruins, running a 19:21.45, beating third place by just two hundredths of a second in a thrilling finish. Gabriel Lachenmeier finished in third for the men's side of the 5k, running a 15:13.31. 

On the field, the Bruins took first, second and third in the women's pole vault, as Grace Tully cleared at 11-7.25 feet, Shelby Larson at 11-01.50, and Abby Woodruff at 10-07.50. Luke Nelson finished in first place in the men's pole vault, vaulting 15-00 feet, the 10th-best mark in GFU history. Keegan Gantala took fourth with a vault of 13–06.25. 

In the women's triple jump, Kyesha Farmer finished in third with a jump of 34 feet, and Lucy Bleeker in fourth place with a 32–06.75. 

In the men's long jump, Thomas McMillan set a personal best with a jump of 21 feet 11 inches to take fourth place, and Victoria Azria used her own PR to take second place with a 17-11.75 on the women's side. 

In men's javelin, Cole Nicholas threw 187-05 feet and finished in third, while Joey Halloway threw 170-01 and took fifth. On the women's side, Ellie Corwin took first with a throw of 127-11 feet, and Brecken VandenHoek threw 115-02 to take fourth. 

In women's discus, Addie Wegener got on the podium with a throw of 119-09 feet to finish in third place. 

Ellie Corwin took second in Women's shot put with a throw of 39-00.5, which was just under two inches off the first place finisher. 

What Comes Next
 George Fox is set to host their annual Rich Allen Classic on Saturday, March 8th, with field events starting at 9 am at the Austin Sports Complex, and track events at 10 am at Stoffer Family Stadium.
