Several Bruins Make Collegiate Debuts at Orange & Black

TUALATIN, Ore. -- The George Fox men's golf team ended the afternoon in third place overall in the first round of the Orange and Black Invitational, scoring 312 (+24). 

Top Performances
Ian Powers led the Bruins this Monday, ending the afternoon with a score of 77(+) to contribute to a third place round for George Fox. Powers is currently ranked eighth in the tournament thanks to a round that featured three birdies on the back nine.

Eli Harrel was next for the Bruins, scoring 78(+6). Harrel birdied the ninth hole, en route to a one-over back nine.. Luke Powell also scored 78(+6) alongside Harrel. He struggled in the beginning, but came back to birdie three times in the back nine for the Bruins. The duo finished their first round in a tie for 12th place.

Joel Martinez started out strong, birdying in the first and ninth holes to score a 79 (+7) and a round one spot of 15th. Truman Fletcher, meanwhile, finished in 23rd with an 80 (+8) to conclude the first five Bruins. 

Alongside the five main Bruins, Fox also fielded a "B" Team. Ian MacArthur led the second team, starting the front nine off strong with two birdies in the second and third holes. This contributed to his total score of 79 (+7) on the day. Christian Chacon and Blake Johnston scored 84 (+12) and 85 (+13) respectively. Otto Klein rounded out the afternoon for the Bruins, scoring 86 (+14). 

Overall, the Bruins "A" team shot 312 (+24) and are in third place, while the GFU "B" team is in 7th place with a 334 (+46). Whitman leads the field with a first-round score of 296 (+8), while Lewis & Clark's Charlie Hageman is the frontrunner thanks to a day one 69 (-3)

What Happens Next
The Bruins will be back in Tualatin, Ore. tomorrow, attempting to further climb the leaderboard for the second day of the Orange and Black Invitational. Tee off is at 8:30am on September 23.
