Bruins Move Up to Seventh in First Tournament of Spring Season

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The George Fox men's golf team finished up their first tournament of the year in the West Coast Invite, moving up from a ninth place day one to a T7 finish with a score of 608 (+32). 

Top Performances
Truman Fletcher paved the way for Fox, and ended the day in 12th place with a 39 (+4) on the front nine, a total of 76 (+4), and two birdies on the back nine. In total, Fletcher shot a 149 (+5).

Next, Luke Powell had a score of 77 (+5) in the second round, also with two birdies on the back nine, finishing in 26th with a total score of 153 (+9). Tying with Powell was Eli Harrell with 74 (+2) as his total for day two. Harrell took the second half by storm with an eagle in the 15th on the back nine, finishing with three birdies total.

Christian Chacon was next with 34 (-1) on the front half, finishing as the top Bruin of the day with an overall score of 72 (E). The freshman's solid day two moved him up 35 spots into a tie for 26th with Powell and Harrell.

Meanwhile, Ian Powers shot a 38 (+3) on the front nine, but also ended in an identical overall score from day one—82 (+10) to finish in 70th place with a 146 (+20). Powers had two birdies in a three-hole stretch on the day.

As a team, the Bruins moved up from a tie for ninth place into a tie for seventh with Cal Lutheran, finishing with a 608 (+32). Thanks to an under-par day from the No. 22 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the Stags won the tournament with a team score of 576 (E). The Stags' Samson Li captured the medalist honors, finishing a staggering seven strokes ahead of his nearest competition thanks to a day two score of 64 (-8) and an overall score of 134 (-10).

What Happens Next
The Bruins won't play for an entire month, but will be back on Monday, March 30 competing in the their home tournament, the GFU Invitational, in Molalla, Ore.
