RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The George Fox men's golf team kicked off their spring season in California, finishing day one of the highly-competitive West Coast Invite in a tie for ninth alongside No. 18 Ponoma-Pitzer thanks to a score of 205 (+21).
Top Performances
Truman Fletcher led the way for the Bruins and ended the day in eighth with a round of 73 (+1). Fletcher gained momentum going into the back nine where he recorded two birdies and ended -2 (35).
Luke Powell also had two birdies throughout the day — one on the front nine and one on the back — while also ending in second for GFU. Along with ending 35 (E) on the front nine, Powell also tied for 21st alongside 12 other players with an overall score of 76 (+4).
Eli Harrell came up next for the Bruins with a 79 (+7) and finished in a tie for 49th; Harrell started off the day strong with a birdie on the second hole. Also recording one birdie was
Christian Chacon on hole 15. Placing in a tie for 61st, Chacon ended the day with an 81 (+9).
Rounding out the score for George Fox was
Ian Powers. With a total score of 82 (+10) as well as a birdie on hole two, Powers finished in a tie for 65th after round one.
Chapman's Kendrick Tan took first place with a total of 70 (-2) for individual play. As for team play, No. 28 Claremont-Mudd-Sripps is in first with a team score of 190 (+6).
What Happens Next
The Bruins will stay in Riverside as they look to continue their momentum for a top place finish into day two of the West Coast Invite on Tuesday, February 10. The competition is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am.
