MOLALLA, Ore. -- The George Fox men's golf team hosted their annual GFU Invitational and ended the first day in a solid second place with a 297 (+13), right behind Whitworth in first, 295 (+11).

Top Performances
Leading the Bruins was Ian Powers with an overall score of 72 (+1) and finished as a top place finisher in third at the end of the first day; Powers had a great day on the green where he recorded a total of two birdies with one on each nine. Next up for GFU was Eli Harrell, and — after ending in sixth — concluded the day with a 73 (+2). Harrell also showcased his skill on the course with an impressive three birdies overall. 

Christian Chacon followed not long after for Fox after shooting a 75 (+4). Thanks to a birdie on hole 17, Chacon not only ended the back nine under par, 35 (-1), but also took 12th for the day. Also finding success on the fairway was Truman Fletcher; Fletcher took 26th and recorded a birdie on hole 15 which helped him earn a score of 77 (+6). Rounding off the Bruins' score was Luke Powell with a 79 (+8) thanks to a birdie on the front nine that led him to tie for 37th. 

George Fox also had a couple players competing individually throughout the day with Blake Johnston being one of them. He recorded a birdie on hole 16 and ended the day in a tie for 37th as well, 79 (+8). Otto Klein also competed individually and came out hot with a birdie on the first hole; by the end of the day, Klein was in 70th with a score of 98 (+27). 

After finishing the first day, Whitworth took first for team play with an overall total of 295 (+11) with GFU only a few strokes behind in second, 297 (+13). Individually, Whitworth's Matthew Durkin sits in first, 66 (-5). 

What Happens Next
The Bruins look to finish strong on the final day of the GFU invitational on Tuesday, March 31 at the Arrowhead Golf Course. First tee is scheduled for 8:00 am.
