TACOMA, Wash. -- The George Fox men's golf team showed great consistency, shooting one stroke better on day two of the NWC Spring Classic — but moving up two spots to end the tournament in third place with a 595 (+27).
Top Performances
As opposed to the first round, where the Bruins had staggered tee times, their Easter Sunday began with an 8:00 AM shotgun start.
Eli Harrell, who started the day as the leader, began his second-round journey on hole three. The sophomore had one birdie for the morning en route to a 75 (+4), and though he would not finish as medalist, Harrell placed second overall with an overall score of 144 (+2).
Truman Fletcher had the best overall day for the Bruins, recording just three bogeys on a day-two 72 (+1). The senior had birdies on hole 3 and 11 to finish his day in 12th place with a 149 (+7).
Behind Fletcher in the standings was
Luke Powell and
Ian Powers, who each finished in a tie for 22nd with a 152 (+10). Powell had a team-high four birdies, including one on the second hole he played, the par-three sixth, and went on to shoot a 75 (+4). Powers, meanwhile, had two birdies as he shot a 77 (+6).
For the second straight day,
Christian Chacon had an eagle on the par-five first hole. This time around, it did not start his day, but came towards the end of it; the freshman had a par or better on 10 of his first 12 holes, including that eagle on hole one, and went on to shoot a 75 (+4) to finish in 28th with a 153 (+11).
Overall, the Bruins finished in the top three at the Spring Classic for the second straight season, placing in third with a 595 (+27). Linfield won the tournament with a 579 (+11), with the Wildcats' Douglas Bailey finishing as medalist with an under-par 139 (-3).
