GEORGE FOX 2, EASTERN OREGON 0: McKinsey, Russell Boost Bruins Over Mountaineers

Box Score

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Forwards Jenny McKinsey and Anna Russell teamed up to score a goal apiece with the other assisting on each, lifting the George Fox University Bruins to a 2-0 win over the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon here at the EOU Soccer Field.

George Fox struck quickly as Russell fed McKinsey for her third goal and third game-winning score a mere 39 seconds into the contest.  Fifteen minutes later, the two struck again, McKinsey collecting a rebound shot by Nicole Akiu that deflected off Mountaineer keeper Kalah Minter and feeding Russell for the second score.  It was Russell's first goal of the season, and her first since October 21, 2000, at Whitman College when she was a sophomore for the Bruins.

The Bruin defense made those goals stand up as they allowed 15 shots to the Mountaineers but only three on goal, keeper Sally Page saving all three to record her third straight shutout.  Minter had seven saves for Eastern Oregon as George Fox took 17 shots, nine on goal.  EOU had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

George Fox (3-0) will try for a school-record fourth win to open a season when the Bruins visit Northwest Christian College Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Eugene, Ore.  The Bruins also began the 1997, 1998, and 1999 seasons 3-0 before faltering.  Eastern Oregon (1-2) hosts Carroll College Friday at 2:00 p.m.
