Box Score

Box Score

NEWBERG, Ore.
– Led by a career-high 24 points from freshman guard Sage Indendi, the 7th-ranked George Fox University Bruins remained unbeaten in 19 games with a 67-36 thumping of the Whitman College Missionaries in Northwest Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon here at the Wheeler Sports Center's Miller Gym.

The Bruins hit their first two shots of the game, three-pointers by Indendi and Elise Kuenzi, for a quick 6-0 lead and never looked back.  An 11-0 run, capped by an Indendi layup, enabled the Bruins to build a 20-4 lead midway through the period, half the points by Indendi.  A Kristen Shielee layup with five minutes to go boosted the Bruins to their largest lead of the half, 26 points, at 34-8.  The Missionaries scored the final five points of the half on a jumper by Ellen Vertatschitsch and a three by Jessica Brice to make it 34-13 Bruins at the break.

The Bruins scorched the nets in the first half with a .650 shooting percentage (13-20) while limiting the Missionaries to a .207 mark (6-29).  Indendi had 14 points, hitting 5-6 from the floor, while Shielee made all four of her shots for eight points.

George Fox maintained a comfortable margin throughout the second half as Whitman could get no closer than 18 points, that coming on an Anna Forge free throw which made it 44-26 with 11:37 left.  Two free throws and a layup by Indendi got the Bruins rolling again, and they eventually built their advantage to 31 points when Danielle Roisom sank a three with 45 seconds left for the final score.

Indendi hit 7-11 from the field with a pair of threes and 8-8 from the charity stripe for her season's best, easily topping her previous high of 17 points.  Shielee finished with 16 points on 8-10 from the floor and narrowly missed her third straight double-double with a game-high nine rebounds.  She also had three blocks, while Keisha Gordon had five assists and three steals.  The Bruins sank 25-48 shots for a .521 percentage and owned the boards 41-26.

Rebecca Sexton came off the bench to lead the Missionaries with 10 points and pulled down four boards.  Forge also had four rebounds and passed out three assists.  Vertatschitsch made three steals.  Whitman ended with a .259 shooting percentage (14-54).

The Bruins, one of only two unbeaten teams remaining in the NCAA Division III, improved to 19-0 overall and 10-0 in the conference.  It is the best start to a season and the longest winning streak in team history.  The Missionaries, pre-season conference favorites, dropped their third in a row and fourth in the last five games as they fell to 13-6 overall and 5-5 in the NWC.

George Fox hosts Lewis & Clark College and Whitman welcomes Linfield College Friday, both games starting at 6:00 p.m.  They will be followed by NWC men's games at 8:00 p.m.
