GEORGE FOX 69, LINFIELD 34: No. 4 Bruins Stuff Wildcats to Make It 23 Straight

Box Score

McMINNVILLE, Ore.
– A sterling defensive effort in which they held the Linfield College Wildcats to a mere 10 percent shooting percentage and eight points in the first half sparked the 4th-ranked George Fox University Bruins to a 69-34 rout of their Yamhill County rivals in a Northwest Conference women's basketball game Saturday evening here at Ted Wilson Gym.

The Bruins remained one of two undefeated teams left in the NCAA Division III (No. 1 Illinois Wesleyan is the other) as they climbed to 23-0.  Already the conference champions, they are 14-0 in league play.  The Wildcats fell deeper into the NWC cellar at 3-20 overall and 2-12 in the league.

Sage Indendi's three-pointer opened the scoring for the Bruins, and Nadra Evans answered with a jumper for the Wildcats.  The Bruins then reeled off 19 unanswered points to take a 22-2 lead with 12:25 left, and closed with a 12-0 run over the final seven minutes of the period to lead 41-8 at the half.

Linfield was only 3-30 (.100) from the field and 0-11 from three-point range in the first half, while George Fox connected on 17-35 (.486) and 4-10 (.400) from behind the arc.  Keisha Gorden out-scored the Wildcats all by herself with 10 in the half.

The Wildcats improved significantly in the second half, hitting 10-31 (.323) to finish with a mark of .213 (13-61), but got no closer than 32 points when Sarah Amina hit a three to make it 47-15 with 16:28 left.  The Bruins' largest lead of the game was 40 points on a layup by B.B. Gardner that made it 58-18 with 13:28 to play.

Kristen Shielee led all scorers with 16 points for the Bruins, making 8-10 from the floor.  She also had three blocked shots, extending her single-season record to 91.  Gordon added 13 on 5-8 shooting, including 3-4 on threes.  Elise Kuenzi had 10 rebounds as the Bruins controlled the boards 47-34.  Indendi passed out six assists.  George Fox shot .475 (28-59) from the field for the game.

Lindsey Gummersall was the only Wildcat in double figures with 11 points.  Chrissy Baumgartner had a team-high seven rebounds.

George Fox closes out the regular season with two home games next weekend, starting with Willamette University on Friday at 6:00 p.m.  Linfield hosts Pacific Lutheran University Friday.  Both games begin at 6 p.m., followed by men's NWC games at 8 p.m.
