Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Freshman
center Hannah Munger of George Fox University
scored her team's first 12 points and a career-high 21 in all,
leading the 6th-ranked Bruins to their 12th straight win, a 73-50
victory over the Pacific University Boxers in Northwest Conference
women's basketball action Tuesday here at the Pacific Athletic
Center.
George Fox, 6th in the WBCA poll and 7th in the D3hoops.com
poll, improved to 16-2 overall and 9-0 in conference play while
moving a game-and-a-half ahead of the idle and second-place
University of Puget Sound. The Bruins have won 28 straight
against the NWC, both in regular season competition and in all
games including tournament and post-season play. Pacific fell
to 6-10 overall and 3-6 in the league, slipping a half-game behind
Pacific Lutheran University into sixth.
Munger was the Bruins' entire offense for the first eight
minutes of the game, hitting the team's first six field goals, then
assisting on a three-pointer by Carly Towne as the visitors built a
15-7 lead. Arianna Mohsenian hit a pair of three-pointers and
Keisha Gordon one as the Bruins extended the lead to 25-10 with
7:46 left in the half.
The Boxers responded with a 9-1 rally as Rochelle Reeves-Howe
hit two long threes and Paige Jensen a conventional three-point
play, cutting the deficit to 26-19 with five minutes
remaining. The Bruins kept the Boxers at bay with an Elise
Kuenzi layup and a basket and free throw by Munger, who led all
scorers in the half with 15 points, to lead 31-23 at the break.
Gordon began to heat up early in the second half, sparking an
11-3 run with three straight driving layups, and Mohsenian capped
the outburst with a three as the Bruins pushed their lead to 16
points at 42-26 with 14:31 to play. Reeves-Howe keyed a Boxer
rally of 11-4 and Jensen hit a three-point play to bring the home
team within nine at 46-37 with 11:38 left, but that was as close as
the home team would come.
Kuenzi connected on a three-point play to slow the Boxers'
comeback, and Munger hit two more baskets and two free throws in a
19-4 Bruin spurt that effectively sealed the win. Kuenzi's
power layup with 6:03 left completed the run and gave the Bruins
their largest lead of 24 points at 65-41.
Munger was joined in the Bruins' scoring column by Gordon with
14 and Kuenzi with 11. Munger was 9-11 from the floor and had
eight rebounds as the Bruins controlled the boards 34-30.
George Fox shot .537 (29-54) for the game after a blistering
.615 (16-26) in the second half and 8-18 from three-point
land. Kuenzi had four assists and Gordon made four steals.
Reeves-Howe tossed in 18, including four three-pointers, to lead
the Boxers, and Jensen added 12 points along with a game-high nine
rebounds and four steals. Julianne Erbe passed out three
assists. Pacific shot .345 (19-55) from the floor for the
