Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. – Jami
Roos scored 20 points and Hannah Munger and Keisha Gordon
posted double-doubles, leading the George Fox University Bruins,
ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division III, to an 81-62 win over the
Northwest University Eagles in non-conference women's
basketball Saturday evening here at the Wheeler Sports
Center's Miller Gym.
Following a 16-point performance in her first college game on
Tuesday, Roos came off the bench to hit 7-of-11 from the floor,
including 6-of-9 from three-point range. Munger, the
Bruins' 6-5 junior center, had a double-double of 11 points
and 12 rebounds by halftime, finishing with 14 points, 18 boards,
and narrowly missing a triple-double with eight blocked
shots. Gordon, a senior wing, scored 12 points with an equal
number of rebounds.
Munger and Megan Arnoldy scored layups for the Bruins to open
the game and the home team never trailed. After Emily
Drivstuen hit a jumper to put the Eagles on the scoreboard, the
Bruins went on a 13-4 run, capped by a three from Roos, to make it
17-6 with 15:24 left in the half. Northwest got no closer
than nine points the rest of the game.
A three-pointer by Arianna Mohsenian gave George Fox its largest
lead of the first half at 42-22 with 1:16 left, and the score was
42-24 at the break. The Bruins built their lead by hitting
six threes in the half to none for the Eagles, and doubled the
visitors on the glass 32-16.
The Bruins' lead hovered between 15 and 24 points through
the first 13 minutes of the second half before they began to pull
even further away. A layup by All-Cascade Collegiate
Conference center Jessalyn Jackson brought the Eagles within 22 at
67-45 with 6:57 left, but the Bruins reeled off nine unanswered
points, sealed by two Carrie Myers free throws, for a 76-45 lead
with five minutes left.
The Bruins shot .419 (26-62) from the field, including .458
(11-24) from beyond the arc, and ended with a 57-35 advantage in
rebounds. They recorded 19 assists, led by Arnoldy with four,
while Hayley Cusick led the defense with three steals.
Jackson led the Eagles with 22 points and Domi Mendezona added
16. Jackson and Ashley Coila each had five rebounds, while
Drivstuen and Ebany Herd had two assists apiece. Herd,
Mendezona, and Jackson had three steals each. Northwest shot
.343 (24-70) from the field and was only 1-for-13 (.077) on
threes.
