FOREST GROVE, Ore. –
Behind sophomore Justine Benner's 19 points
and career-high four steals, the nationally-ranked George Fox
University Bruins victimized the Pacific University Boxers for the
22nd straight time 87-66 in Northwest Conference women's
basketball action here at the Stoller Center on Tuesday night.
Ranked 7th in the nation by D3hoops.com and 8th by the WBCA, the
Bruins (19-1, 10-1 NWC) reached 10 conference wins for the 10th
straight season and never trailed the Boxers (6-14, 2-10 NWC) in a
game that was originally scheduled for last Friday but postponed
due to severe snow.
Benner got the Bruins off to a roaring start, scoring eight of
the team's first 10 points. The Bruin lead reached double
digits just before the 10-minute mark in the first half, and
eventually reached 19 points at 36-17 with 2:20 left before the
Boxers trimmed the score to 41-24 at the break. Benner scored 13
points in the half.
Senior Megan Arnoldy made sure that George Fox's second
half began strong as she scored the half's first four points
and hit 11 total in the final period. Pacific never made it closer
than 14, but the team did put up a challenge as George Fox
outscored them only 46-42. Junior Jami Roos' third
three-pointer with 3:45 remaining gave the Bruins their largest
lead of 23 points at 81-58.
A total of four Bruins finished in double digits as Roos equaled
Benner with 19 points, sophomore Nicole Blizzard scored a
career-high 16, and Arnoldy added 15, her highest scoring effort
since Jan. 10 versus Lewis & Clark as she closed in on 1,000
career points with 915. The team leader in rebounds, junior Lauren
Codling, had another strong night, nabbing seven off the
glass. Collectively, George Fox shot 30-64 (46.9%) from the
field, won the rebound battle 38-32, and forced 22 turnovers.
Freshman Sarah Curl was the high scorer off the bench for the
Boxers with 18 points, all in the second half.
