NEWBERG, Ore. --- The 11th-ranked George Fox University women's basketball team stretched their undefeated streak on Saturday night, improving to a perfect 11-0 on the year with a resolute 77-55 victory over 24th-ranked Puget Sound.
The Bruins, now a sterling 2-0 in NWC play this season, stymied the Loggers' offense, holding Puget Sound to just 31% shooting. Senior Lauren Codling was the Bruins' defensive stalwart, and she dominated off the glass, pulling down 20 rebounds, easily a game-high. Codling added three steals and affirmed her imposing presence in the post, recording all five of the Bruins' blocks.
Codling impressed from the free-throw line, too, shooting 6-8 and totaling 10 points to complete her double-double. It was her fourth of the season. She also distributed on offense, pacing both teams with seven assists as she slung passes to sharpshooters Jami Morris and Dacia Heckendorf. Morris went 3-5 from beyond the arc and 6-10 overall, good for a game-high 18 points. The precise Heckendorf was a spotless 3-3 from long range and chipped in 11 points. Guard Kylie Drummer was also efficient, with 11 points of her own on 5-9 shooting.
As a team, the Bruins were accurate and largely mistake-free, shooting 43% from the field and a blistering 48% on threes.
While Puget Sound were unable to keep pace with the Bruins shot-for-shot, center Katy Ainslie put in a quality shift, leading the Loggers with 17 points and seven rebounds. Guard Emily Sheldon showed her willingness to defend, pickpocketing three steals and blocking three shots.
Puget Sound fall to 9-1 on the year and will play Willamette on Jan. 9. The Bruins remain undefeated and will likely rise in the latest rankings, sitting at 11-0 (2-0 in NWC play) as they host 3-7 Pacific Lutheran on Jan. 9
