Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. --- The unbeaten top-ranked Bruins put on a show Friday night, as George Fox took down Pacific Lutheran, 89-36.
The No. 10-ranked Bruins improve their undefeated season to 12-0 and 3-0 in the Northwest Conference. Meanwhile, the Lutes fall to 3-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
In the opening minutes, the Bruins opened up the first half taking a quick 12-point lead after going on a 16-0 run. The Bruins would grow their lead to 24, but the Lutes would cut it to 15 just before halftime.
George Fox led the Lutes 36-21 at the break. Going into the game senior Jami Morris was three points shy of 1,000 in her career as a Bruin. She added to her legacy tonight recording four points at the half bringing her total to 1,001.
"Jami is a very special player and an exceptional teammate," said head coach Michael Meek. "She brings a ton of things to this team and the fact that she hit 1,000 tonight shows the type of player she is. She is a fantastic leader and has been really fun to coach and watch."
In the start of the second, the Bruins picked back up where they left up increasing their lead to 29 in the first five minutes. The second half proved to be the best for the Bruins shooting a 61.8 percent clip from the field. They also added a 50 percent clip from the 3-point line going 5-for-10. The Bruins largest lead came at the 2:45 mark after Kimberly Frost made a pair at the free throw line, 85-30.
As a team, the Bruins forced 35 Lute' turnovers, while tallying 22 steals. The 35 turnovers was the second most they have forced this season. George Fox has had a season-high 26 assists on the night with both Lauren Codling and Morris recording five apiece.
Morris led the Bruin crew with 16 points and five steals. Justine Benner finished her night with 15 points, while Sammy Naluai added 14 points. Kylie Dummer also got in the double digits with 11. Codling continued her average of double digit rebounds with 12 and added six steals to her five assists.
"The 26 assists to me shows how well this team plays with each other," said Meek. "The leadership that we have and how they respond to each other is fun to watch. "I am looking forward to the Blue Zone and the support that our community and student body give us."
The Bruins will travel to Willamette tomorrow afternoon with tip-off at 4:00 p.m.
