Box Score TACOMA, Wash. --- The George Fox football team was narrowly defeated on Saturday, as the Bruins traveled up to Tacoma for a hair-raising game against the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran. The Lutes were able to sneak away with a 28-27 victory.
Recap:
The Lutes wasted no time in the opening possession taking just 26 seconds off the clock with a 65-yard touchdown pass. The Bruins responded quickly, though, as Grant Schroeder and John Shaffer helped the Bruins drive down the field. Schroeder connected with Shaffer on a 12-yard pass that evened the game up at, 7-7. The Bruins took their first lead of the game just before the end of the first quarter with another touchdown pass. This time Trevor Daniels was on the receiving end for a 23-yard score. In the start of the second, the Lutes used 6:08 off the game clock before finding the back of the end zone to tie the game back up, 14-14. The Bruins again responded with ease using a 20-yard screen pass to Ryan Comstock for a 21-14 advantage.
Just before time expired in the first half, the Bruins used Anthony Galat's foot for a 20-yard field goal to give the Bruins a 24-14 edge at the half.
Pacific Lutheran scored twice in the third quarter to go up by four, 28-24, but the Bruins wouldn't go down without a fight. Galat again hit one through the uprights to start the fourth quarter for the Bruins, bringing the game within one, and plenty of time left on the game clock. Both teams went back-and-fourth, but unfortunately each possession ended with a punt.
Top Performers:
Schroeder ended his day with three touchdowns and 353 yards in the air. He completed 26 passes on 38 attempts. Shaffer carried the ball 22 times and netted 110 yards on the ground with a long of 28. Daniels and Brad Lander led the receiving core, as Daniels finished with 11 catches on 135 yards and a touchdown. Lander caught seven passes for 113 yards and a long of 44. Tanner Krahel led the defensive side of the ball with 6.5 tackles and an assisted sack.
What It Means:
The Bruins fall to 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in the Northwest Conference. The Bruins are currently in fifth in the NWC standings.

The Bruins will host Linfield College on Saturday, October 31 at 1:30 p.m. The same weekend as Family Weekend.
