WHITTIER, Calif. --- The No. 2/3-ranked George Fox women's basketball team visited Whittier College Friday night, as the Bruins beat the Poets, 83-62.
Recap:
It was a productive night for the Bruins, as they filled the stat sheet and used an all-around team effort in the 21 piont victory. The Bruins wasted no time in the opening quarter, jumping out to a 16-2 lead. Justine Benner and Anjenae Torregano contributed the most in the run, as the two combined for 11 of the 16 points the Bruins put up. The Poets did manage to cut the deficit to 10 as time ran out in the first quarter, 25-15, but the Bruins were remarkable in the second quarter. George Fox held the Poets to just six points in the 10 minutes of play. In fact, the Poets were held scoreless in the first six minutes of the second quarter, as the Bruins' defense proved to be a problem.
George Fox went into the break up, 48-21. The Bruins also shot above 50 percent in the first half and well over 45 percent from the 3-point line.
The third quarter was more back-and-forth, but it was done so with long breaks from each team when it came to scoring. Four separate occasions both teams went scoreless for more than a minute. The Bruins ended the quarter on a Justine Benner layup which came at the 1:03 mark.
The drought continued into the fourth quarter as another two minutes ran off the clock before either team made a basket. The Poets ended up pacing the Bruins in the fourth, but it was George Fox who came away with a 21 point victory.
