NEWBERG, Ore. --- The No. 2-ranked women's basketball team cruised by the Boxers of Pacific University, Friday night, as the Bruins beat the Boxers, 87-51.
Recap:
The Bruins out-scored the Boxers in three of the four quarters of tonight's contest, and used a 20-7 first quarter to set the tone going forward. In fact, the Bruins only recorded three points in the first quarter after six minutes of play, but all of that would change when Kaycee Creech hit a three to spark a run. The Boxers answered moments later with a three of their own, but George Fox would go on a 14-2 run in the last three minutes of the opening quarter.
With momentum on their side, the Bruins continued to keep their foot on the gas increasing their lead to 24 at the 4:16 mark in the second quarter. The Bruins went into intermission up by 19, 40-21.
The lead slowly grew in the third quarter, and with a 36 point lead after six minutes of play, the Bruins decided to give the bench full control of the game. Tavin Headings took full advantage, as she went 2-3 from the 3-point line and added 10 points to her 16 minutes of play. The third quarter was the most productive for the Bruins, as they out-scored the Boxers, 33-11.
The Bruins closed out the game with a 58.9 percent shooting clip from the floor and 66.7 percent from the 3-point line.
Top Performers:
Justine Benner led the Bruins with 18 points, but Kaitlin Jamieson was one point away from a double-double (9pts, 10 rebounds). She also added three blocks and three assists to her night. Creech tied her career-high with 12 points --- all came in the first half. Nicole Blizzard matched Headings 10 points and completed the double digit scoring for the Bruins. Sammy Naluai dished out a career-high eight assists.
What It Means:
George Fox improves to 18-0 on the season and 9-0 in conference with the win, while the Boxers fall to 8-10 overall and 3-6 NWC.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins have a big game tomorrow, as they head up to Puget Sound for a match-up at the top of the conference standings. That game will tip-off at 4:00 p.m.
