NEWBERG, Ore. --- The Bruin faithful were out in full force Saturday night during Family Weekend, and the George Fox football team didn't disappoint, beating the Loggers of Puget Sound, 44-10.
Recap:
The Bruins welcomed the high-powered offense of Puget Sound with open arms, holding the Loggers to 262 yards in total offense. The Loggers entered the contest with the third most yards in the Northwest Conference at 471.2 yards per game.
The Bruins set the tone early, scoring on their first possession with a 33-yard field goal by Uriel Gonzalez. The Bruins' defense forced a punt, and Grant Schroeder took over for the Bruins' offense. After two incomplete passes and a four yard run, Schroeder connected with Lane Hadley for a 31-yard touchdown pass after facing a fourth-and-six. With the touchdown pass, the Bruins enjoyed a 10-0 lead.
The scoring wouldn't end there, as Gonzalez found the uprights again, this time with a 43-yard field goal. The Bruins ended the quarter with a 13-0 advantage.
Puget Sound finally got on the board in the second quarter after 16 plays resulted in a 2-yard touchdown pass from Hans Fortune to Dustin Harrison. The Bruins looked to respond on the next possession marching down field, but the Loggers were able to come away with an interception in the end zone.

The Bruins wasted no time in the start of the third quarter, as only two plays were needed. Schroeder rushed for 27 yards to put the Bruins on the Loggers' 44-yardline. Hurrying to the line, Schroeder floated a wonderful ball to Hadley for a 44-yard touchdown pass. After the quick score, 20-10, it seemed like smooth sailing, as the Bruins put up 17 points in the third quarter. In total, the Bruins scored 31 second half points, which is the most in program history.
"I told the guys at the end of the game that was the best second half performance I've seen since I've been here," said head coach Chris Casey. "Our guys played with a lot of heart and effort. We controlled the ball for the entire game and all-around had an outstanding performance. Our defense was awesome. We tackled really well, and put a ton of pressure on their QB. You can't say enough about our fans. They were coming regardless of what that forecast called for. We absolutely love the support we get."
That support was felt for the remainder of the game, as the Bruins gave the fans everything they asked for. Schroeder seemed to be on fire in the second half, tallying four touchdowns – two in the air and two on the ground.
"Everyone contributed tonight," said Schroeder. "I can't do what I do without the offensive line. Those guys were tremendous. They were excellent on the pass rush, and left huge holes for our running backs. We accomplished everything we wanted to do tonight. We finished that game strong."
