Spencer Has Career Night In Win Over Linfield

Box Score

NEWBERG, Ore. --- The No. 21-ranked George Fox women's basketball team won its 22nd-straight game over the Linfield Wildcats Saturday evening as the Bruins beat the 'Cats, 83-47.

Recap:

The Bruins were quick to seize control of this one, as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three and a half minutes of play. The 'Cats were able to cut into the deficit towards the tail end of the quarter, but the Bruins came away with a 16-11 lead after the first.

The second quarter was one of the more impressive quarters of the night for the Bruins. The momentum first came from the Bruins strong defensive play, opening the quarter with a steal and a block from Hailey Hartney and Emily Spencer. George Fox made the most of its stops, as they capitalized on almost every turnover with points. Madison Hull was one of the few beneficiaries for the Bruins, hitting a deep three at the 8:23 mark to put the Bruins up 23-12.

The Bruins' largest margin in the first half came at the 5:04 mark after Kaitlin Jamieson made a nice move inside the paint to give the Bruins a 19 point edge, 35-16.

George Fox went into the break up 16, 37-21.

The third quarter was closely contested as both teams went back and forth. Tavin Headings provided the boost the Bruins needed, though, leading the Bruins throughout the quarter with 10 points. George went into the final quarter up by 19, 54-35.

In the final quarter of the game, Emily Spencer was the hero the Bruins needed. The sophomore guard scored 11 points, going a perfect 3-3 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line to give the Bruins the 83-47 victory.

Top Performers:

Spencer finished the night with a career-high 20 points and a career-high eight steals. Her eight steals move her up to tied for second all-time at George Fox in single-game steals. The George Fox record is nine steals in a single game set by Becky Thompson in 2001. Headings also finished in double digits with 12 points. Kaitlin Jamieson also had a good night with nine points and seven rebounds.

What It Means:

The Bruins improve to 16-3 on the season and 9-1 in the Northwest Conference.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins hit the road next weekend with games against Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound. The Bruins tip off at 6 pm against Pacific Lutheran Friday, Feb. 2.
