NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's basketball squad hosted Chapman University on Friday night and earned a 64-48 win as the Bruins extended their early-season win streak to four games against the Panthers in Miller Gymnasium to improve to 4-1 on the year.

Recap

The Bruins entered riding a three-game hot streak against non-conference opponents. Most recently, Fox blasted UC Santa Cruz 90-51 thanks to 75 percent shooting from three-point range. On the season, the Bruins are led in scoring by Hailey Hartney with 12 points per game. Hartney leads GFU from outside the arc, shooting 57.9 percent from three.

The Panthers led 14-13 after the opening period. George Fox struggled from the field and Chapman brought a full-court press against the Bruins which created early issues with the offensive flow. The Bruins were 3-for-10 from the field and still figuring out Chapman's defense. Haley Strowbridge led the Bruins with four points after the first quarter.

The Bruins stormed back in the second quarter, outscoring the Panthers 22-10 to take a 35-24 lead into the locker room. The Bruins adjusted to Chapman's pressure and the shots started falling for Fox's shooters. The Bruins were 10-for-13 from the field in the second quarter, with Kaylee Bishop and Hartney each splashing home a three. Hartney had five points in the frame while Emily holder and Haley Strowbridge each added four.

The third quarter was a slow affair. The Bruins were 4-for-13 from the floor while Chapman went 3-16 and George Fox outscored Chapman 9-7 in the period. Emily Spencer added four points and Kaylee Bishop hit another three for the Bruins in the very slow quarter to give the Bruins a 44-31 lead going into the final quarter of play.

George Fox got off to a hot start in the fourth quarter, using a dominating 13-0 run to put the game out of reach with a 57-31 lead before the Panthers got their first bucket. The Panthers would not go down so easily, putting up an 11-0 run to bring the game within 15 and forcing the Bruins to put their full starting lineup back on the floor to finish the game. The Bruins starters did just that, and George Fox came away with a 64-48 win in the contest.

Top Performers

The Bruins were led by Strowbridge with 14 in the game. She was 4-for-8 from the field and 6-for-8 from the line to lead the Bruins on offense. Holder, Bishop and Kylin Collman all finished with nine for Fox. Collman added eight rebounds and four assists, leading the team in both categories.

What It Means

The Bruins now ride a four-game streak with a 4-1 record to start the season strong.
