DEMOREST --- The George Fox baseball team fell in an extra-innings contest to Piedmont in a 10-inning, 8-7 slugfest that featured six extra-base hits and 13 RBIs.
Recap
The Bruins went down in order to start the game and surrendered an unearned run in the bottom of the frame, but a long ball to left field from Jerred Seamons tied it at 1-1 in the top of the second frame.
The Bruins took a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a run plated by Jason Garcia. Garcia singled his way on base and stole second before coming around on an RBI single from Trevor Nannini. The Lions answered with four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-2 lead, but the Bruins broke out their bats again in the sixth.
After loading the bases with singles from Kyler Brudwick, Sam Swenson, and a walk by Nannini, a Seamons single drove in Brudwick to start the run. Chase Fetzer chased two more home with another single, and Colby Watilo laid down a sacrifice bunt to plate Seamons for the 6-5 lead.
The Lions tied the game again at 6-6 with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Seamons and Nannini had another answer in the eighth. After making his way to second with a walk and a wild pitch, Nannini came around to score on a double from Seamons to take a 7-6 lead.
The Lions scored the last two runs of the night, however. After tying the game in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings, the home team plated another in the bottom of the tenth to walk off with an 8-7 final score.
Landon Schirer got the start and lasted four innings, allowing two runs – only one earned – on three hits, two walks, and an error. Isaac Olson and Liam Kent bridged the gap with three innings of work before handing the ball over to Matt Voelzke. Voelzke worked the last two and two thirds and was tagged with the loss after giving up a double in the tenth inning.
