MCMINNVILLE --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team returned to Northwest Conference competition on Saturday, March 30, with a 20-7 win in McMinnville over Linfield College.
Recap
The Bruins scored the first ten goals of the match and left little in doubt for most of the matchup. Jennifer Burke won the first draw control and scored within the opening ten seconds of play unassisted, and Lois Ray tacked on another goal with an assist from Madison Strickland before a full of minute of play could tick away.
Bailey Faust, Meredith Teel, and Strickland joined Burke and Ray on the box score with goals of their own to help the Bruins grab a 10-0 lead at 21:06, less than nine minutes into the action.
The Wildcats got two of the goals back to make it 10-2, but Isabella Alfaro scored for the Bruins while down a man and then set up Teel for a strike while the Bruins were man-up to make it 12-2 with just over 11 minutes left in the first period. Faust and Strickland each added another goal in the closing ten minutes of the first half to give George Fox a 14-3.
Strickland opened the second half with an unassisted goal and added another ten minutes later off a feed by Burke for a 16-4 lead with just under 20 minutes remaining in regulation. The Wildcats scored the next two goals to make it 16-6, but Andrea Garcia-Milla and Ray answered with two goals of their own.
The Wildcats would come up with one more score at the four-minute mark of the second half, but Strickland found the net once more and Ray tacked on a final insurance tally in the closing minute for the 20-7 final score.
