Box Score TACOMA, Wash. --- The George Fox women's basketball team made up a postponed tilt in Tacoma against Pacific Lutheran and came away with a 71-47 win in regulation to start their week on strong footing.
How It Happened
The Bruins set the tone early with a 17-9 first quarter and never lost the lead after jumping in front, 6-5, with 7:32 left in the opening quarter. Both offenses were firing on all cylinders in the second quarter, but the Bruins outpaced PLU again with a 24-19 effort in the period powered by a 10-13 performance from the floor. After a dominant first half the Bruins had built a 13-point lead at the break, 41-28.
The third quarter was a slower-paced period marred by turnovers for each side, as PLU outscored Fox 9-7 in the quarter to chip away at the Bruins' lead. Fox answered back with a 23-10 output in the fourth to close the game going away and coach Michael Coppolino was able to empty his bench and get court time for his reserve unit in a 24-point win for the Bruins.
Top Performances
The Bruins' defense limited the Lutes to 14% shooting from outside the three-point line and 26% overall while also out-rebounding their hosts, 42-32, in a game that they led for all but nine seconds. No Lute reached double figures in scoring on the night.
Individually, Alyssa Wells and Ella Roberts tied for the scoring lead with 14 points apiece and Cassidy Posey put up 10. Posey also grabbed a game-high six boards and Wells dished out a team-high four assists. Jordan Ryan swatted another three shots in the win and is now tied for first in the NWC in blocked shots this season with 1.33/game and nine total in her last two outings.
Coach's Thoughts
"We did a great job of sharing the basketball and playing George fox basketball," coach Coppolino said after the win. "I am excited and hoping we can build off this for the coming games ahead."
What It Means
George Fox grabs its second NWC win and improves to 6-9 overall this season to move into sixth in the conference standings by win percentage, while PLU drops to 1-6 in conference and 4-10 overall.
Up Next
Fox hosts no. 17 Puget Sound on Friday and will get some extra rest over the weekend before a rescheduled Wednesday game against Linfield at home on Feb. 2. Both games will tip off at 6:00 pm.
